Geography

The continent of Australia, with the island state of Tasmania, is approximately equal in area to the United States.

Mountain ranges run from north to south along the east coast,. The western half of the continent is occupied by a desert . The Great Barrier Reef, extending about 2,000 km,. The island of Tasmania 67,800 km is off the southeast coast.

Government

Democracy. Symbolic executive power is vested in the British monarch, who is represented throughout Australia by the governor-general.

History

The first inhabitants of Australia were the aborigines.

Today about 350,000 Aborigines live in Australia.

Dutch, Portuguese and Spanish ships sighted Australia in the 17th century.

Free settlers and former prisoners established six colonies: New South Wales (1786), Tasmania (1825), Western Australia (1829), South Australia (1834), Victoria (1851) and Queensland (1859).

Several gold rush attracted settlers, as well as the extraction of other minerals. Sheep farming and grain soon became important economic enterprises. The six colonies became states in 1901 and federated in the Commonwealth of Australia with a constitution that incorporated British parliamentary U.S. federal and traditions.

Australia became known for its liberal legislation: free and compulsory education, protected trade unionism with industrial conciliation and arbitration, the secret ballot, women's suffrage, maternity benefits and sickness and old age pensions.

The most populous and vital Australian cities include:

- Brisbane

- Perth

- Adelaide

Australian climate


The climate of Australia remains best between spring and autumn.

Rains very little.

Language in-use at Australia


Australia aborigines speak in English but not in a typical traditional way, they twist and shorten the language according to their convenience. The colloquial Australian-English uses abbreviations like Aussie for Australian, Brolly for umbrella, Chook for chicken, Damper for bread, Ta for thank you and so on.


Australian currency

In currency Australian dollar AUD called. Tourists to travel in Australia may withdraw the necessary amounts of any cash machines.

Australia, a great tourist destination to visit and enjoy your holiday, enriched with varied cultural and social meanings.

Fauna and flora

There are a lot of strange animals.
The best known animals are the kangaroo, koala, platypus, koala and the spiny anteater.

Among the marsupials of Australia are the animals grazing, tree climbers, amphibians, ground burrowing animals.

There are about 50 species of kangaroo.

There are 55 species of parrots in Australia, and birds are as numerous as they are colored.

We have more species of venonous snakes than any other continent and our spiders are also among the most venonous.

Australia has 20,000 species of plants, including living fossils such as the cycad palm tree and grass, wildflowers and bright as the Waratah, Sturt's Desert Pea, flower cones of Banksia trees, and the leg of
red and green kangaroo.

The continent has 700 species of acacia, and 1,200 species of the family Myrtaceae, including Eucalyptus trees or gums. Wild flowers turn grassland areas and dry savannas of Australia into carpets of color after the rain. Native forests are limited mainly to the wetter coastal districts and forests are mainly in Queensland.

Eucalyptus actually occupy the continent from the snow country south of the northern tropics, salt-laden river banks and the harsh deserts. Some species of embracing the land, while others reach to the sky and samples of more than 150 feet have been recorded.

AUTOEVALUATION

For me, our presentation are good because we explain very good but we read a lot and are too nervious.
